Meet Kim
“I moved to Durango because it felt like home and I thought I could grow old here surrounded by a wonderful, vital community. My husband, John, and I met while skiing at Purg and have continued to enjoy our shared love of the outdoor activities and recreation available in our area. We spend many fun hours on the area trails with our two dogs, Hugin & Bear (who especially loves to swim in the snow).
My joy in growing plants and trees led me to become a master gardener. I am continually playing in our garden, growing flowers and harvesting vegetables. I am fortunate to have an 80-acre walnut orchard that my sister and I own and manage. (eat more walnuts!).”

A Vision For Durango
I appreciate what has been done to create the town we live in and I want to maintain the character of Durango. I will work to keep our City a place where all can work, live and recreate in a prosperous City that provides the services and amenities that the community values. I believe that these values include being a community where: young families can raise their children safely with a good education and varied activities; good paying jobs are available and the opportunities for employment continue to grow; a wide range of housing is available and affordable; all citizens are valued in our community and can contribute to its vitality while enjoying a good quality of life.
Accountable for Results
Measurable goals and transparency:
I will work to ensure that City goals and objectives are prioritized, communicated well and often, and are presented in an understandable way that promotes openness and transparency.
Setting measurable goals for City staff and for City Council and managing our progress toward those goals will allow City leaders to be accountable and responsible for results as well as for the activities.
I want the City financial reports and budgets to be presented in a way that makes them useful as management tools for making wise choices.
Involved and Informed
Active participation:
My participation on City boards, commissions, and committees began 10 years ago when I first moved to Durango. I served for 4 years on the Natural Lands Preservation Board and then 3 years on the Multi-Modal Board. I am currently serving on the Planning Commission. I have also been a member of committees addressing the Comprehensive Plan revision, the Land Use Development Code revision and participated in several other committees considering ideas to support housing, transportation, employment and recreation.
Since June of 2018, I have attended over 40 City Council meetings and study sessions, including the day-long budget review. In addition, I have participated in 6 City Council listening sessions and attended several City Advisory Board meetings.
